Jeff Dowdy was born in Gary, Indiana and was raised in the suburbs of Detroit. He attended Wayne State University, and graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1989. While in law school Jeff worked at the Michigan Bar as an intern in the Ethics Department. He also worked as a volunteer at the 60 Plus Law Clinic, which helped senior citizens with wills, trusts and other legal needs.
After graduating from law school, Jeff moved to Central Florida to be close to his parents. In 1989 he began working at the Seminole County Public Defender’s Office. While there, he tried all types of criminal cases including murder cases. In 1990 Jeff started his own firm, Dowdy & Nielsen.
Jeff has tried over 100 jury trials in county, circuit and federal courts throughout the State of Florida. He is one of a select group of attorneys that is death penalty qualified by the Florida Supreme Court. Jeff has tried some of the most complex and difficult cases in the history of Central Florida. In addition to trying over 100 jury trials, Jeff has also handled appeals and has appeared before the Florida Supreme Court as well as the United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta , Georgia. In his legal career, he has earned a professional reputation for knowledge of the law, fairness, compassion and trial success.
Jeff now limits his practice to representing victims in personal injury matters, and assisting policy holders in claims against their own insurance companies.
Jeff is married and has two children. They attend St. Stephen Catholic Church where he is an Eucharistic Minister. He also does pro bono legal work for the church. Jeff is actively involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, is a PTSA member and a Dividend Volunteer for Seminole County Schools. Additionally, Jeff is on the Board of Directors for the Seminole County Bar Association.
